MORE INFORMATION

Counties and cities in Washington are not allowed to enact policies that protect kids from tobacco. Why is it important to prevent kids from starting to use tobacco?

  • 90% of adult tobacco users started before the age of 19.
  • Roughly 1/3 of all youth smokers will die prematurely from smoking-caused disease.
  • Numerous studies have found that retail advertising makes it more likely that kids begin using tobacco.
  • In 2012, the Tobacco Industry will spend over $100 million on marketing in Washington state.

This video shows some of the new products the Tobacco Industry has created.
